Barbie Puts on Her Dancing Shoes and Dances with the Stars

Barbie is ready to dance the Paso Doble with the stars.

Professional dancers Cheryl and Maks also join Barbie in Latin ballroom dancing.  I recently purchased this DVD from Target.  The routines are simple, but rigorous especially while keeping up with Cheryl!

When it is not on hiatus, Dancing with the Stars broadcasts each Monday and the "elimination" show on Tuesday.  So far tennis legend Martina Navratilova and soap opera star/singer Jack Wagner have been eliminated.

Martina Navratilova and Tony Dovolani. She looked gorgeous on the show.

Jack Wagner and Anna Trebunskaya.  I admired Jack since he first appeared on "General Hospital" in 1984 as "Frisco Jones".  He is still handsome, and could have gotten away with not having plastic surgery on his face.

Jack's "All I Need" was a hit in 1984.  I agree that it is a cheesy love song, but I still like after nearly 3 decades! Check out Jack's "mullet" hairdo.  Here's a clip of the song for your listening and viewing pleasure.

Here's for the ladies who are shoe freaks.  I think it is enough to have a few pairs for an evening out, a few pairs for casual wear, and a few what I call "go-anywhere" types of shoes.  But not thousands of pairs that seem to occupy nearly all rooms of a house!

Check out those shoes that encircle Barbie's neckline.

From the Barbie Basics collection, a pair of accessory and shoe kits.

I'll keep my shoe obsession to a "mini"-mum.

Barbie's Ob-Shoe-sion

On Monday nights, Barbie gets ready for the competition and on Tuesday nights to listen to the results from a combination of the judges' scores and the viewer's votes via telephone or computer voting.

Barbie scores a "10" for her Paso DOLL-Ble.

Put on Your Blue Suede Shoes and Dance! Happy Birthday, Mr. Presley!

My alarm clock did not wake me up, but it was somebody singing "Blue Suede Shoes" at the end of a local TV news segment.

Here are two snapshots from my television screen this morning.

Also mentioned in honor of his 77th birthday, a local diner is offering a free "Elvis Shake" which consists of peanut butter, chocolate, and marshmallows included with any burger purchase. Yummm.

Here is a youtube video of "Blue Suede Shoes':

Barbie, sporting what seems like a "Priscilla" hairdo, and wearing an iconic Elvis gold lame type of suit wanted also to celebrate the Rock and Roll's legendary icon's birthday celebration.

The proud new parents of 1967, with daughter Lisa Marie. Priscilla certainly had the "big" hair that was popular that time. I wonder if  her hairdo inspired the Barbie Elvis.

Barbie as a female Elvis, 2011.

My father, who is much more of an Elvis fanatic than I am still has this album in vinyl.

Note some of  Elvis' hit singles printed on the inside.  Of course, one of my favorites is "Suspicious Minds" from which I modeled my sewing blog's name.

Mattel's Elvis from "Jailhouse Rock", 1957,  well before the MTV music video era that started in 1981.  Elvis' memorable video clip probably influenced Michael Jackson's "Beat It"  and Lady GaGa's "Telephone" music videos.

Aloha! Elvis in "Blue Hawaii", 1961

To comemmorate Elvis' 75th birthday in 2010,  here is Mattel's Elvis from that motion picture.

Nah-nah-nah, Elvis in his beaded eagle jumpsuit.  The jumpsuit was the trend back then.

From 2000, Mattel's Elvis in his eagle jumpsuit.

The resemblance between Elvis and his granddaughter Danielle Riley Keough  (now 22 years and a high-fashion model) is unmistakably there, especially at the jawline.  Elvis was born blonde.

From elvispostcards.com:

Although he has not been with us for nearly a quarter of a century, Elvis continues to influence the music and fashion scene (i.e. slicked back hair, pompadour, side burns, big sunglasses, wide lapels, baggy pants). Even the Beatles has admitted to Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and  Elvis as their major musical and fashion influences earlier in their musical career.  Chris Isaac, Adam Lambert among many look like they took a cue from the "king".

Elvis even makes a scarf looks chic, yet masculine.

It's one for the money and two for the show...

Happy 77th Birthday, Mr. Presley! Rock on!

The Beauty of Color, Light, and Nature

I adore Mattel's "The Museum collection" giving enlightened meaning to Barbie and art.  This is a clever and lovely tribute to the famous iconic paintings and works of artists Gustav Klimt, Vincent Van Gogh, and Leonardo da Vince that still inspire modern art and even current fashion.

The ladies looking still enchanting in natural lighting, sans the flash.

This is not the first time that Barbie has been fused with the works of classical painters.  Barbie was also in the late 1990's series inspired by famous and iconic paintings.  Here from 1999, is Barbie looking elegant in a gown with soft palette of lovely colors inspired by Pierre Renoir's "Reflections of Light".

Also from the series inspired by famous paintings, is one of my favorite Barbies that I have displayed in my living room, "The Sunflower Barbie" (1998) in all her floral and golden radiance, inspired by the famous painting by Van Gogh.

Barbie, receiving some sunlight.

Her gown is distinctively and delightfully lovely and cleverly depicts a sunflower with the dark velvet bodice representing the center or seed head and a crown or corolla of strips of fabric emerging from below the bodice and above the skirt as the ray florets.

My daughter's version of "Sunflowers" as a class assignment from last year.  She wanted Barbie to pose next to her artwork.

From Barbie and us: Have a sunshine-filled Thanksgiving Day or a day of gratitude and appreciation.
