Happy Birthday to a Crime-Fighting Angel!

Guess who just turned 60?

Cheryl Ladd is best remembered for her role as Kris Munroe in Charlie's Angels.  She joined the cast in 1977 to replace Farrah Fawcett who played Jill Munroe.

To make the transition seemingly smooth, she played Jill's younger sister.   Fans of the show welcomed for the most part Kris Munroe as the "new" angel.

Hasbro's "new" angel that arrived in 1978. I wished that these 9" dolls were at least "Barbie" sized.

"Angel Out of a Package" (contrary to an episode called "Angel in a Box")  The box had already been slightly opened.  I would not call Hasbro's Kris a startling resemblance to Ms. Ladd, but her face favors more of  her than Mattel's "Cheryl Ladd" doll.

Mattel's "Cheryl Ladd" doll (1978) of the "TV Super Star Women" series.

There was also a "Kate Jackson" version. Toy companies even then were quick to produce and cash in on the popularity of TV celebrities.

Maybe it was her sweet charm, fresh vivacity, and girl-next-door's eye-catching beauty that won immediate approval from fans of the show and helped successfully overcome the challenges of a show's survival when a very popular original cast member leaves the show. Cheryl had a pair of very big and high shoes to fill.

A pretty Lady in Red.  This picture looks totally late seventies disco glamour-ish.

Many years later and she still looks gorgeous!

Happy 60th birthday, Cheryl!

Big and Little Kickers!

The FIFA Women's World Cup is held from June 26 through July 17.

Go Barbie for the USA! Go for the goal!

Her teammates may be little kickers, but mighty big in attitude.

Some drill and practice

Some hightlights from Sweden vs. USA game on July 6, 2011.  There was hope for USA to advance to the finals...

The Swedish team won 2-1 over the USA team.  The ladies were ecstatic with their victory.

The USA team looked disappointed.  We hope that they play well against the formidable Brazilian team.  Let's make that VERY well.

My husband, daughter, and I visited Sweden during the summer of 2009.  We visited Stockholm and a few places in Smalland.  My husband's mother and father live in a small town in Smalland.  Much of the landscape in Sweden was green forestry.

Attired in broad stripes and bright stars are patriotic "red, white, and cute" friends Kelly, Belinda, Deirdre, and Liana.

Have a very nice 4th of July!

Happy Canada Day, A Canadian Legend, and A Canadian Birthday Girl

Especially to our Canadian friends, I hope that you have a Happy Canada Day (July 1)!

From 2005, here is the Inuit Legend Barbie doll designed by Christy Marcus, winner of the Ryerson University Barbie® fashion design contest.  From Wikipedia "The Inuit live throughout most of the Canadian Arctic and subarctic: in the territory of Nunavut ("our land"); the northern third of Quebec, in an area called Nunavik ("place to live"); the coastal region of Labrador, in areas called Nunatsiavut ("our beautiful land") and Nunatukavut ("Our Ancient Land"); in various parts of the Northwest Territories, mainly on the coast of the Arctic Ocean and formerly in the Yukon. Collectively these areas are known as Inuit Nunangat."

This beauty came in a box autographed by the designer.

About the designer and her inspiration for the doll, her Inuit grandmother

July 1 is also a birthday of a well-known blonde Baywatch lifeguard who turns 44 today.

Barbie seems to take on fun and fearlessly the role of  "C.J.", popularized by Pamela Anderson.

Pamela played "Valery Irons" in "VIP" (1998-2002) , head of an "elite professional bodyguard agency".  I thought it was a "cheesy" show that capitalized on Pamela's popularity.

The non-mattel doll resembles her really well.

I am not the biggest fan of Miss Anderson, but I think she looks good here in a recent photo, with less makeup, and more clothing.
